Okay, this is actually a serious issue. I had to shrink from having conversations on camp because I was literally scared of meeting people who were unable to keep up with English or who altogether could not understand what i had to say or respond appropriately. And during the Christmas break last year, i heard it was even much worse in some other camps; some people were decamped for not knowing how to write their own names. And they were supposed to be "GRADUATES" of universities entering the work force within they year. Computer Science Graduates who had never touched a computer, Engineers who merely knew anything beyond secondary school science class students would know and people who couldn't write application letters. I wondered what was to become of the future of our beloved country amongst all the other vices that plague us. I'm in no way particularly subservient as regards our imperfect government, but I really can not blame the government on this issue. From the same schools that these "educated" illiterates graduate, come elite, extremely intelligent few who would fit into the mold that is the literate crop of individuals in our society.

DRUG ABUSE: A VICE IN THE SOCIETY
What is Drug?
Wikipedia defines drug as a substance which may have medicinal, intoxicating, performance enhancing or other effects when taken or put into a human body or the body of another animal and is not considered a food or exclusively a food.
In pharmacology, a drug is a chemical substance used in the treatment, cure, prevention, or diagnosis of disease or used to otherwise enhance physical or mental well-being.
A layman’s definition is that drug is a medicine or other substance which has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body.
We have two types of drugs, the legal drugs (over-the-counter drugs sold in Pharmacies) and the illegal (illicit/illegitimate drugs sold on the streets).
What is Drug Abuse?
Drug abuse is the recurrent use of illegal drugs, or the misuse of prescription or over-the-counter drugs with negative consequences. Drug abuse is the misuse or overuse of any medication or drug, including alcohol.

EDITORIAL CDS VISIT TO HERITAGE HOMES, ABUJA
The maxim
“Charity Begins at Home” is quite familiar and thus seems undemanding. There is
however, an unfathomable depth in the statement because even a flake of
kindness shown can go the extra mile in making someone’s day worth living.
It might have started out as an ordinary day,
but it was really not the case as it was the day the
Editorial CDS Abuja, in a bid to retain its standard of being the revered
mouthpiece of the National Youth Service Corps organized and executed a
courtesy visit to the Heritage Orphanage. The members of the Community
Development Service group had chosen to spend time and show love to the
children of Heritage Orphanage at Gwarimpa, Abuja; carrying with them gifts items.

JUST ONE MOUTH
Someone once made a statement regarding the pairing of some parts of our bodies like the hands, legs, ears, nostrils, eyes, lungs, etc; while the most essential parts are not paired. The mouth has been said to be of paramount importance to the existence of all living beings because survival depends on it. Food passes through this same mouth for our nourishment while sounds proceed from this same mouth for the sake of mutual co-existence with the rest of our environment. We express through the harmony of words and express through the letting out of sounds. This one mouth cries and laughs, it lies and tells truths, it blesses and curses, it commends and gossips, it kills and gives life.
There is only one Editorial CDS (not as if other CDS groups are paired); but we are the MOUTH of the NYSC and Corps Members as well. We have the ability to let out the sound that is needed to be heard and that same sound can be held back. This is the voice that can cry and laugh, lie and tell truths, bless and curse, commends and gossip, kill and give life. May God enable us to never abuse this ability but responsibly be the voice that was created for the growth of the NYSC and the well being of Corp Members, as well as thriving for a greater Nigeria.
