As we warm up to exchange batons and count down to the grand finale, the past few weeks will surely go down in the memory books as one of the best. A little modification has been made to the existing structure and an addition has been made to the arsenal. It’s up to the team who will be receiving the baton to continue in the same spirit, pace and build on the already laid foundation.
I wish more could have been and could still be accomplished under my watch, but the performance from the larger team hasn't been very encouraging and that calls for concern. A team of about 140 persons, less than 30% are functional, over 50% are ceremonial and the remaining 20% are MIA (missing in action).
I’m privileged to have come across and learnt from so many individuals, in the course of this journey, no matter how little, as well, I’ve also impacted positively on a few others too, having recruited two batches of corps members into the OBS and been in three different CDS groups in two different states.
Lesson and experiences I would take out from all this are; no matter how hard you try, you just can’t please everybody, team success supersedes and is worth far more than individual recognition, and to execute responsibilities effectively, you’ll need to step on toes. So to the toes we might have stepped on or are yet to step on, it is nothing personal but a necessity for the greater good.
And finally, my advice to the entire team, respect the teams captains or team players assigned or selected to oversee the various roles, if not for them as individuals, but for the position they occupy and for the progress and success of the entire team as a whole.
God bless Team Editorial Board CDS.
