EDITOR’S NOTE

It seems like yesterday, we were carrying boxes on our heads running into the Orientation Camp, forced out of bed courtesy of the bugle, marching till we couldn’t feel our legs, boring lectures, camp fire night, collecting of posting letters, rejection, resumption at PPAs (Places of Primary Assignment), CDS (Community Development Service), I can’t believe it’s a year already.

Well it goes to show how time flies, but the good news is you are the pilot. It’s the end of the service year, but the beginning of another phase, as we climb a step further in life. As Youths we are not the leaders of tomorrow but the leaders of today. Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time, we are the ones we’ve been waiting for, we are the change that we seek.

I use this medium to congratulate the entire 2013 Batch C corps members on the successful completion of their service to the nation. I wish you the best in your future endeavours. The service year has exposed us to work based experience from our different Places of Primary Assignment, Team-work and selfless service to the community courtesy of our Community Development Service Group activities, as well as Unity in Diversity. As long as we put these experiences we have acquired during the service year in where ever we find ourselves in future, the sky won’t be the limit but a starting point.

I’m privileged to have learnt and reciprocated, no matter how little, from and to individuals I have come in contact with in the course of this journey. My tenure as President of the NYSC FCT Editorial Board, presented me with leadership challenges. During which, we visited City of Refuge Orphanage Home, Durumi, Government Secondary School, Wuse Zone 3 and added an affiliate Radio Program tagged “Corpers Corner” on Nigeria Info 95.1fm, to our arsenal. I’m thankful and grateful for the opportunity.

I want to extend my gratitude to my family and friends who supported me through the service year, I am grateful. Congratulations to the new corps members who just answered the clarion call and the prospective corps members who are yet to, when you do, be Patriotic, Optimistic, Enthusiastic and be proud to serve honestly and faithfully. Finally, Service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of life, and not something you do in you spare time.
