I don’t think this is funny at all. But truthfully I had a
good laugh about it and thought I should share it. Just maybe it could trigger
a smile!!!
A lot of inanimate things are being named after people that
have lived their lives well. Most of these people perhaps sacrificed their
lives for people and a good number of them are seen as heroes and role models.
Now, let’s assume I am a Congolese and I did a lot of good
things to the good people of congo and they decided to name a river after me.
My name is Ebola John Thomas. I brought what is regarded as close to
civilization to the Congolese people and I was rewarded with a river; one of
the longest and swift flowing rivers in Congo.
Sometime later, my good deeds were forgotten and the people
that came by the Ebola river stopped. Well, not all of them stopped coming by
anyways. The ones that came by these days don’t know about my history or
perhaps they forgot it in a hurry.
Now all they do is dump refuse in the river and have now
turned the once elegant view into a pathetic site.
Years have passed, but the habit of dumping refuse in the
river thrived. It suddenly turned into a form of sport- “let’s race to river
Ebola and see the first person to dispose of his garbage”, they chuckle under
their breath and they carelessly walked briskly to dump their waste. What they
are thinking, I wondered.
As I lay steady in my sepulcher, I wonder how a good deed could
be turned into an abuse. I weep as I hear the thumping sounds of the waste and
wished there could be a turnaround of attitude towards the river.
Then one day, I thought to myself as I lay still. “What if I
could find a way to punish the perpetrators of this evil deed? The people that
want to turn my supposed glory into a pitiful site. It already is anyway”, I
thought. Justice, justice justice!!! I shouted as I wondered the best
punishment for my enemies.
What if I conjured a disease form the dirt they dispose of?
It would be a fair punishment because they would have created the disease by
themselves, except I would help them a little in conjuring the disease.
Presently, there is a disease that erupted from that river
and it is called Ebola VIRUS. But shouldn't they have named the virus something
else? AIDS is acquired immune deficiency syndrome, HIV is human immune virus,
and other diseases have their names gotten from the sickness they give. Why
will these wicked people that tarnished the image of my glorious river spoil my
name with the reciprocating disease? Why wouldn't they just leave me alone, I sobbed?
Disclaimer: I Ebola John Thomas am not responsible for the
transfer of Ebola virus from the parent country, DR Congo to other counties. I
am deeply sorry for the inconveniences being faced in the hajj and football
qualifying matches.
