MUSIQUE

Everyone looks for that one thing that they can connect to, the one thing that would change your mood when you are sad and down. Common!! Think about it….. Imagine you like a boy or a girl just because she can whistle and every other fault is secondary.

For me my kryptonite is music. It is my mood changer, my companion and if possible, my ‘partner’. I know it sounds weird but that is just the fact about me. When I feel alone, confused or even angry, I put my earpiece and I get a new perception of things.

A lyric is everything in a song while the beat and all that are just bonuses. Imagine been heartbroken and feeling unloved then u listen to one of Bruno mars songs –although I think he sounds sad and depressed- and it makes you (preferably a girl) feel like his right there in front of you talking to you directly, you get all warm and fuzzy inside, and smile. Lyrics give you an insight of an artist whether he is talking about kissing with his last breath or assuring you that after a rain comes a rainbow, or asking not to be judged or advising you to shine bright like a diamond, they all speak to people in different ways.

I for one know that most Nigerian songs lack depth in lyrics all in the name of being a ‘gbedu’ song. I know that to be on top you have to take risk and make changes once in a while like music of people such as 2face Idibia and my personal inspiration Don Jazzy. These are legends in the music industry. So next time you listen to a song, don’t dance to a song that calls you poor and expresses how much they are better than you because whether they like it or not we the buyers made them who they are. So choose ‘great music’ before ‘gbedu music’ because I know I would always do so…..
