When I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew older, I hurriedly said I wanted to be an engineer.
I didn’t even realize that there were different types of engineers. I just liked the title and the swag that followed the bearers.
Presently, if I am asked what I want to be, I am sure I won’t answer hurriedly. If am any honest, I probably won’t answer at all. The reason being that there are no jobs in the country and there is no need going through school for five years. Sometimes, some additional time for “strike” purposes, just to graduate and sit at home doing nothing like those players that coaches “bench” – except in their case, they still get paid.
If some other kid was asked what he wanted to be in future, he would childishly say “doctor”. Perhaps because his parents are doctors or they have whispered the idea into the child’s ears and hoping the child will grow passion for the profession as he grew older.
There is a soap opera called THE DOCTOR’S QUARTERS. It tried to show viewers how doctors went about their jobs while still having their original lives. Some of them led confident lives and others insecure lives.
It is no news that doctors are human beings and are not exempt from mistakes. Sometimes they make obvious blunders that even end lives. It would be unfair though not to mention that they miraculously save lives too. Doctors make guesses like Engineers and likewise other vocations, I don’t know about Pilots. There are many doctors that don’t have passion for their jobs, perhaps because they were forced into it by their parents or they just lost the enthusiasm along the way.
I write this article because, a lot of people expect to get well after visiting the doctor, forgetting that the doctor is probably an insecure unpassionate fellow who could be a fraud (olodo).
A friend recently queried me for not getting better after visiting the hospital and this has spurred a lot of concern because the truth is that doctors aren’t Gods.
Funny still, general medical doctors are a scam. I suggest they should specialize. #NoOffence.
